The best piece of advice that my mom & dad gave myself and others when I was younger, was this: If you’re paying to have something done, make sure that it is getting done the right way! This advice has always stuck with me, but it has really saved myself and others from getting scammed a few times now.
For example, a few years ago my partner and I both agreed that it was well past time for us to get radiant flooring installed in our home, as we had the same busted old heater for ages.
The people I was with and I are only getting older, & after so many years of dealing with freezing winters up here in the north all of us were exhausted of our old & rusty heated furnace! After reaching out to the local Heating, Ventilation & A/C service company, we set up the appointment. It was told to us that it would be easier for everyone involved if we simply weren’t there while he and his crew worked to install the radiant heated floors. That was fine and dandy, but we were paying this business by the hour. Installing these floors was supposed to take four hours, but I was definitely not going to pay these guys for eight hours of labor! The upgrade team was surprised and somewhat irritated that my wife and I were still there, seeing as they couldn’t claim eight hours of labor while we were present. Hey, they got the job done on time, and I wound up paying them for five hours of labor just for that reason.
