There are actually a few things that you need to do to maintain your dehumidifier so that it can work to remove the excess moisture in your home.
It is good to make sure that your humidistat is set do a proper level so that it doesn’t draw too much moisture from the air.
This can result in an excessively dry environment that will actually harm your wood furnishings just as sure as excess moisture will do the same. Obviously, you also want the humidistat set to a level to where it actually is removing an appropriate amount of moisture from the air so that the job is actually being done. Generally, you want the humidity level in the air of your home to be at about forty-five to fifty percent. A dehumidifier also has an air filter that does much the same job as the air filter on your HVAC unit. Also like the HVAC unit air filter, it needs to be replaced with a new filter regularly. Check the manual that came with the dehumidifier to determine when it is best to change the filters. Also, in addition to emptying your dehumidifier’s water tank, you should periodically clean it to prevent the growth of mold or mildew. You should also clean the intake and exhaust grills on your dehumidifier to prevent dirt from building up on them and interfering with the dehumidifiers operation. The hose attachment on your vacuum should do the trick nicely. If you want your dehumidifier to work well, similar to your whole HVAC unit, it needs to be maintenanced regularly!
