I have been a certified HVAC tech for over 25 years and I wouldn’t want to be anything else in life. I get paid great and I am able to help people everyday. ]My son has been able to see how much I’ve loved doing what I do everyday, and now that he has graduated from high school, he asked me if he could work under me as an HVAC Apprentice. I was very surprised when he asked me this because I always thought he wanted to go to college, but I sure was happy that my son was interested in an HVAC apprenticeship. As the first week passed my son and I worked on various projects together fixing HVAC units and installing heating and cooling units however I was beginning to see that life as an HVAC repairman might not be for my son. He was a hard worker and always got along with the families that we will be in contact with. When it came to being able to problem-solve and fix an HVAC unit no matter if it was a newer version or an older version, my son was not able to do so. at the end of the first week I had a conversation with my son that I thought was a bit hilarious in all honesty. I told him what I thought about his potential as an HVAC repairman, and that it might not be for him. My son just laughed and said “ I know dad and I am already one step ahead of you. I was already planning on telling you I am going to try college instead tomorrow!” and then we both shared a good laugh. I really do love that my son tried to follow my footsteps and become an HVAC repairman, but I think you will be much happier and more successful if he takes another path in college.
