My hubby and I have been discussing moving. We are getting older and we are uneasy because we aren’t sure if we are going to be able to continue taking care of a many living room loft and ten acres of property. We knew there was a problem because our hubby was beginning to have severe complications with her back, and I had systemic arthritis. We talked about moving south, where we wouldn’t have to worry so much about the weather. We even talked about moving off the mountain, however it wasn’t in our hearts. We knew that we couldn’t leave our home. Now we are wondering if there isn’t an easier way to deal with managing our home. Now our hubby is looking at alternative heating methods. We have a fireplace, however because of cleaning the chimney and the need to cut wood every summer, it is no longer feasible for us to continue using the fireplace. We also have an oil furnace. The problem with the oil furnace is that the cost of heating is consistently rising. It is rising at a much faster pace than what we are getting raises in our retirement. We can’t afford to take more out of our retirement fund because then we won’t have enough to last us for the rest of our lives. I guess we will figure something out, however we aren’t sure what it will be yet. I appreciate the system of getting rid of the fireplace because of the work that it entails. On the other hand, I don’t like getting rid of the fireplace because of the comfort it gives. I also appreciate knowing that if the power goes out, we will still have a heating plan to keep us warm.
