A few months ago, a terrible storm ravaged our area and caused horrible destruction. Many buildings and homes were flooded in the storm. A lot of people in our surrounding neighborhoods went without power for many days. Folks in our neighborhood were lucky, because we didn’t lose power once during the treacherous storm. Our home was several miles away from the center of the storm. We didn’t feel the impact of from the most dangerous wind gusts, but we had a significant amount of flooding. Storm rain caused creeks in our area to flood. The flood waters cover our yard and driveway. The water ended up in our basement. After the rain was over, the water in our basement continued to rise for an additional 48 hours. By the time the flooding was over, our furnace was under three feet of water. The furnace wasn’t the only problem. We keep a lot of items in the basement, from times when the children were young. Most of these items were ruined, when the flood waters entered our basement. It took a few days for the water to recede. After things were dry, I decided to contact the furnace repair service. Our furnace was still under warranty, but I was unsure if flood damage was covered. The flood waters completely damaged the furnace, and it could not be repaired. Luckily, our homeowners insurance covered the cost of the new furnace installation. Our furnace repair company worked out all the details, so we didn’t have to worry for a moment. I hope our area will never see this type of flooding again.
