My dad constantly called himself “a jack of all trades, a master of none” which was a nice way of saying he knew a little about a plenty of things, however didn’t actually know a great deal about anything! Now that I am grown, with a family of my very own, I have found myself using that expression all of the time as well. Having a family means you have to know a lot of different things about managing a household, which is one heck of balancing act if you were to ask me. I would not call myself a plumber, however I am perfectly able to unclog a drain. I would similarly not call myself a Heating, Ventilation & A/C maintenance expert, however I certainly know enough to maintain our home HVAC machine whenever there is a problem. I have found over the years that regular Heating, Ventilation & A/C machine maintenance will prevent 90% of all the future issues with the machine. It is the nature of an A/C machine to circulate the air inside your residence, consistently passing it through vents, ductwork, and the central air filter before going back into the residence. After numerous hundreds of cycles, all the little bits of hair, dust, and skin cells in the air start to collect in the air filter, and also on the sides of the ductwork system. The more this builds up, the harder the AC machine has to work to keep the air circulating. Something as easy and straightforward as changing the air filter on a regular basis can add a number of years to the life of your Heating, Ventilation & A/C machine! It’s also fantastic to officially clean the ductwork every year or so.
