When it comes to the shelf life of food, I never knew just how crucial it is to keep your house  properly cooled or heated, and l received this lesson the hard way when I left our Cheater going pretty much non-stop throughout the entire winter at that time I was confused as to why so much food was going to waste both in and out of my fridge. Where I live, Winters can be quite harsh, so I saw keeping the heater on as a necessity. However, maybe I should’ve did it in moderation. When I had our heater blasting, I felt so nice and toasty. I had no problem waking up and getting out of bed and putting my feet on the floor, because it was so warm I barely even needed to wear socks. On the surface, it seems that things were okay, however little did I know, our groceries were suffering. My bread would go stale and I would often find little spots of mold on the underside and our fresh groceries kept in the fridge were not staying fresh as long as they were dated. At first, I started to believe that there was an issue with the expiration dates, however after doing some research online, I found the culprit. It was of course, our excessive heating practices. I read from an entirely informative heating and cooling community forum that it’s really crucial to keep your heater operating at a particular setting if you wish to extend the shelf life of your food. Who would’ve thought! Now, I try to make sure that I am not running our heating all the time, so that I can save energy and money.
